iPhone as a photographers toolbox

I recently  bought a iPhone and found out that there is a  large range
applications (small programs) that is more or less useful for us photographers.
I will try to make an overview of the “best iPhone app's for photographers”

Note: We all know that app's will be developed and new app's will show up so this
section of stockholmviews.com will also change by time.

There are countless of iPhone applications available on the market, from games and business applications to photo editing and photo tweaking app's. Some are “official”
and are available through the Apple App Store and some are independent and not supported/approved by Apple. It is a well known fact that the original 2MPiPhone- camera wasn't the best phone camera around and even more disappointingly is that it could not capture video recordings.

The Iphone a great tool for photographers

However the newer iPhone 3GS has a new and improved 3.2MP camera and video is now possible. Anyhow we are still missing features like auto/manual focus capabilities and a resolution that would make this camera to a worthy alternative to a real digital camera, not even a point-and-shoot camera.

Still there might be some features and app's that can make it worth to be carrying the iPhone in my pocket, alone or in conjunction with a real camera like a DSLR or serious compact.

I will take a look at some useful iPhone applications in the following categories.

  • Help tools for photographers like DOF calculators.
  • Sharing and uploading app's.
  • GPS/photography related app's.
  • Photo editing app's.
  • Tweaks for the iPhone camera functions.
  • In camera photo viewers.

Note: Most app's also works with the Ipod touch to!

Music during work

I love to listen to music while working with my photos or when I travel. The sound you can get from the iPhone is nothing less than great and as good as real HIFI. But to experience the best sound from your iPhone, do yourself a favor and ditch the included earphones or you will never be able to get full value from your investment. I use earphones from Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5pro and I just love them :0)

EVCalc 1.0

EVCalc is a small tool that should help you to calculate exposure bracketing.
This is useful to create a series of images for combining them to HDR pictures.

Most of the modern SLR cameras come with a feature that called Automatic
Exposure Bracketing (AEB).but often they support only 3 images in a row
and only with a maximum distance between the exposures of 2 EV
( EV = Exposure Value ).

To cover a larger range you need more exposures or a larger distance
between these images. EVCalc can give you values for a distance of 1- 3 EV
and for at least 5 exposures.

You can also lock the Pickerwheels (EV lock) so when you change one exposure
parameter then the opposite one changes accordingly to keep the EV constant.

So you can shift the bracketing range if it not fits. If one parameter in the table
is out of range you will see a red N/A. The range for exposure times is 1/8000
to 120 seconds and the f-stop (aperture) reaches from f/1.0 to f/64 . This free
tool is also useful for people shooting LF.

EV Calc

Its free and does what it says.
So why not include it in your photo toolbox :0) ***
