The Canon G10 has a different lens than the G9 even though it looks the same!

Both cameras also have "digital zoom" I don't use that and you shouldn't us it either
enough said about that!

Left The Canon G9
Coverage
at its widest lens setting.
That according to Canon
corresponds to 35mm on a "Full frame" camera

Left The Canon G10
Coverage
at its widest lens setting.
That according to Canon
corresponds to 28mm on a "Full frame" camera.
Almost wide angle and much
more useful for landscape
and Cityscapes photography
than the 35mm G9 :0)
This could be my argument
to get the G10 over the G9! |

Left The Canon G9
Coverage
at its longest
tele
lens zoom setting.
That according to Canon
corresponds to 210mm on
a "Full frame" camera.
Can be useful if you can't
get close enough but I
rather chose the wide angle
of the G10 (I just wish the G10 was
even wider). |

at its longest
tele
lens zoom setting.
That according to Canon
corresponds to 140mm on
a "Full frame" camera.
Actually good enough for
most cases where this
camera will be used at least
for me and there is also
possible to attach a tele
converter for those rare
cases when you need it!

In the ISO/noise test I could spot signs of that the
G10 was slightly sharper, I might be wrong but the
shorter zoom range of the G10 lens might have
improved the sharpness over the G9.
But as an engineer I feel that it could also be the
other way, in other words I feel that the G9 actually
should be the one with the
sharpest lens since the
G10 has a more complex built lens 11 vs 9 elements
involved in the optical path.
Anyhow I'm not an optician guy sooo...
